As part of the Interreg SI-AT project H2GreenFUTURE, a pilot educational workshop on green hydrogen technologies was organised in Trbovlje for teachers from the Technical Secondary Technical and Vocational School Trbovlje (STPŠ). The project partners see environmentally friendly technologies as a fundamental element of a sustainable society. Therefore, our goal is to bring young people closer to the importance of innovation, to spark their interest and to enable them to develop knowledge and skills for the future.
To this end, we have teamed up with primary and secondary schools in the Zasavje region, with the Research and Development Agency Zasavje (RRAZ), a partner in the H2GreenFUTURE project, acting as the main catalyst for cooperation.
Training teachers to bring knowledge to students
At a workshop held on 26 and 27 August 2025 at the Technical Secondary and Vocational School in Trbovlje, representatives of the Austrian project partner, the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS), presented the content to the participants, focusing on practical examples of the use of hydrogen technologies for educational purposes. The learning module developed as part of the project is aimed at experts, teachers, students and trainers. It offers customised learning paths to acquire skills that are essential for the future energy sector.
Pilot courses in the new school year
In the 2025/2026 school year, we want to organise pilot training courses and presentations for primary and secondary school students in the Zasavje region in cooperation with teachers. In addition to theoretical and practical demonstrations in the classroom, students will also get to know the DUBT Center, a new research unit of the National Institute of Chemistry in Kisovec. The Center supports research in the field of carbon-neutral technologies and enables a faster transfer of knowledge from research to the local environment, thereby promoting the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries and the development of high-tech companies.
Special thanks go to the headmasters and teachers of the schools in Zasavje, who recognise the opportunities for cooperation and are willing to accept new knowledge and share it with the younger generations. Young people are the future not only of Zasavje, but of Slovenia as a whole! We have proactively involved the team behind the project idea ‘Zasavsko učno stičišče Preplet’ (Zasavje Learning Hub Preplet), which consists of a consortium of most schools in Zasavje, in the training concept itself.
The H2GreenFUTURE project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Interreg Slovenia-Austria programme.
AT H2GreenFUTURE project event entitled ‘H2Green = Future or Present: Legislative and Regulatory Forum’ on the topic of the regional development of hydrogen technologies and the associated regulatory challenges at (inter)regional and national level. At the event numerous experts working in the field of hydrogen technologies in Slovenia, Austria and beyond will give give their insights into the topic.
