The Hydrogen Initiative Austria Power & Gas (WIVA P&G) is an association for the promotion of research and development in the fields of application, grid and storage technologies for climate neutral hydrogen and renewable gases as well as measures for the dissemination of these activities. The aim of the association is to position Austria as a show-case region in the field of hydrogen technologies and green gases.

WIVA P&G is an association for the promotion of research and development in the fields of application, network and storage technologies for hydrogen and renewable gases, as well as measures for the dissemination of these activities.

For a variety of ecological and economic reasons, the further development of the European and Austrian energy systems requires increased integration and implementation of renewable hydrogen and hydrocarbons generated from it, such as methane. As a central energy storage region, energy transport hub and important location for renewable energy sources, Austria is ideally suited to be a model energy region. The WIVA P&G association is developing an overarching concept that shows how existing and future projects can be networked.

The association is responsible for coordinating the flagship region of the same name, ‘Hydrogen Initiative Flagship Region Austria Power & Gas’ (WIVA P&G for short). Renewable hydrogen is the central component in the WIVA P&G association's efforts to achieve the necessary transformation to a largely carbon-neutral structure. The possibilities for its production and storage, chemical conversion to methane and other hydrocarbons, combustion and reconversion into electricity in a variety of different fields of application and processes are analysed, implemented, further developed and demonstrated. In this way, the entire value chain is represented and researched in the flagship region.
